Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND)

At Nields Academy, it is our intention that children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are supported to achieve their potential through access to inclusive high-quality teaching and appropriately differentiated learning activities and approaches.
We believe that it is vital that our pupils are equipped with the tools needed to become independent, inquisitive learners both in and out the classroom and we believe all children have the right to be safe, to be happy and to learn and succeed.

Intent

  • To ensure all children have access to a curriculum which is highly ambitious and precisely designed to meet and nurture the needs of all individual pupils, including those who have SEND.
  • To provide an accessible learning environment which is tailored to the individual needs of all pupils.
  • To ensure that the needs of pupils with SEND are identified early.
  • To develop children’s independence and life skills.
  • To regularly monitor the progress of children with SEND, using a child-centred approach. Make adaptions to provision where needed, to ensure they are able to achieve short term targets and longer term outcomes.
  • To provide good quality and relevant training for all staff members supporting children with SEND.
  • To work in partnership with parents and carers and build trusting relationships.
  • To work in close partnership with The Early Years Unit to ensure early identification of any SEND needs.
  • To work closely with external agencies and other professionals to develop our provision for children with SEND.
  • To take into account the views, wishes and feelings of pupils/parents/carers
  • To provide advice and support for all staff working with pupils with SEND.
  • To support key transition points to allow them to be as smooth as possible.
