Safeguarding

Consistent and effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, children and staff. We encourage parents and children to talk to us about any concerns or worries which may affect their wellbeing; it is important to us that parents and students see the school as a safe place.
If you have any concerns or questions relating to safeguarding, child protection or the wellbeing of a child at our school, please contact a member of our Designated Safeguarding Team. If you have an immediate concern for a child’s safety, call the police on 999.
Our Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) are:

Kirklees Safeguarding Children Partnership

The Kirklees Safeguarding Children Partnership (KSCP) was established following changes to safeguarding legislation to replace the Kirklees Safeguarding Children Board. It brings together key agencies—Local Authority, Health, and Police—who share statutory responsibilities to safeguard children and young people. The KSCP works with other local organisations to ensure effective multi-agency safeguarding arrangements and promotes the welfare of children in Kirklees. Meeting at least four times a year, the partnership has a strategic focus, supported by subgroups reporting on an annual work plan, to coordinate and oversee local safeguarding efforts. Find out more here.

Operation Encompass

Operation Encompass is a vital initiative designed to support children and young people who are affected by domestic abuse. Through a partnership between schools and local police forces, Operation Encompass ensures that when police attend a domestic abuse incident involving a child, the school is informed before the next school day. This timely communication allows the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to offer appropriate support to the child, ensuring their safety, well-being, and ability to engage in their education. For more information visit the Operation Encompass website.

Keeping Children Safe In Education

At Nields Academy, we are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, in line with the Department for Education’s statutory guidance, Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE). All staff, governors, and volunteers receive regular training and adhere to robust safeguarding policies to ensure that every child feels safe, supported, and valued. Our safeguarding procedures are regularly reviewed to maintain the highest standards of care and protection. If you have any concerns about a child’s safety or wellbeing, please contact one of our Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) listed above. You can view Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) here.

Prevent Duty Guidance

The government’s Prevent duty guidance requires schools to play a vital role in protecting children from the risk of radicalisation and ensuring they are equipped to resist extremist influences. Through a broad and balanced curriculum, we encourage open discussions, critical thinking, and resilience against extremist narratives. Staff are trained to identify and address signs of vulnerability and are committed to providing a safe, inclusive environment where pupils feel confident to express their views and seek support if needed. NSPCC

The NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) provides essential resources, guidance, and services to protect children from harm and empower them to speak out if they feel unsafe. Through initiatives like the Speak Out Stay Safe program, the NSPCC helps children understand their rights, recognise abuse, and know how to seek help. For more information or to access resources, visit the NSPCC website.

NSPCC PANTS rules

The NSPCC’s PANTS initiative is a simple, effective way to help children understand how to stay safe from abuse. Using the friendly character Pantosaurus, it teaches an important message through a catchy song and resources designed for young children. The PANTS rule helps children learn that their private parts are private, their body belongs to them, and they should always talk to a trusted adult if something worries them. The initiative empowers children to understand boundaries in a safe, age-appropriate way, fostering open communication with parents, carers, and teachers. Find out more about the PANTS campaign and access resources on the NSPCC website.
